EMDR Therapy
Eye movement therapy for processing trauma and distressing memories
About This Treatment
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy for treating trauma and PTSD. During EMDR, clients recall distressing memories while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli (typically side-to-side eye movements). This bilateral stimulation helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge. EMDR is highly effective and often works faster than traditional talk therapy for trauma.

What to Expect
After preparation and history-taking, the therapist guides you to recall a traumatic memory while following their moving finger with your eyes (or using tapping or sounds). Sessions last 60-90 minutes. You remain in control and can stop anytime. The memory becomes less disturbing over time. Treatment typically takes 6-12 sessions. You may feel tired after sessions as your brain processes.
